Admission Requirements (MPhil)

Sample Admission Paper for MPhil Entry Test

The exam for admission test would consist of 100 marks.  Weightage for written test would be 60 percent and  interviews would be 40 percent. The candidates qualifying the written exam with minimum 50 percent (30/60) marks would be interviewed by NIISS faculty. The written exam duration is 120 minutes.

The Assessment of the candidate would broadly constitute understanding of intelligence and security domains and international relations.

Section 1: Objective Type (20 Marks)

20 Multiple Choice Questions  

This section would test the basic conceptualization and understanding through multiple choice questions designed primarily in the areas of Strategic Studies, International Relations, History and Current Affairs.

Section 2: Subjective Type (40 marks)

Three questions in total. The candidates would be required to attempt two questions each carrying 20 marks.

This section will comprise of open-ended questions related to International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies, Security and Strategic Studies to test basic general understanding of the candidates. The candidates should demonstrate basic understanding of research methodology.

Section 3: Interview (40 marks)

Those candidates who have passed the written exam with 50 percent and higher would qualify for the interview.

The final grading of the candidates will be determined through mutual consultation amongst the faculty and the final decision rests with the director.
